ROSS TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Ross Township police department will have a front and center role at the Reds vs. Cubs on Sunday. May 26.

The Ross Township Police Department Honor Guard will present the Colors at the Great American Ball Park at the 1:10pm game.

Chief Kramer said “We Started an Honor Guard a Couple of Years ago and I think it’s an Honor to be selected especially during the Memorial Day Weekend”.

The Color Guard will take the field at 12:57pm for the presentation of the colors.

Middletown High School hires new women's basketball coach

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A 2001 Middletown High School grad has been tapped to coach their women's basketball team.

Pending Board of Education approval, Kelvon Moss will join the Middletown staff.

Middletown Athletic Director Gary Lebo said, “Coach Moss brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in coaching the game of basketball.  He is someone that will reach out to the community and is the proven role-model and leader that will be good for our program.”

Kelven was a 3-year varsity letterman, team captain and leading scorer for the Middies. Kelven played collegiate basketball at Cumberland University.

Kelven has been part of the Middies Men’s coaching staff the last two years who have won back to back GMC championships and was the Director of the Middletown Travel League/Skeeter Payne Youth Basketball.

Local college freshman leads surge to runner-up finish in regional tournament

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati State freshmen golfers Matt Nickoson and Austin Kyle led the Surge golf team to a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament held at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown.

Playing the three round tournament on Weatherwax's Meadows & Woodside courses, Nickoson and Kyle tied for second place in individual play with net scores of 226. Kyle propelled himself into contention with score of 72 (E) in Saturday's second round to go along with a 76(+4) and 78(+6). Nickoson shot consistent scores of 74 (+2) and a pair of 76s (+4).

Cincinnati State's freshmen tandem were narrowly defeated by Tyler Grant, who led Vincennes University (IN) to its second consecutive Region XII title with a 224. Grant posted scores of 75 (+3), 72 (E) and 77 (+5). The low round of the tournament belonged to VU's Jackson Cowden, who posted a 71 (-1) on his way to a 4th place finish with a net score of 227.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The first of a three game series will be a tribute to Middletown natives.The Reds game on Monday, May 6 is Middletown night.

Middletown, Ohio natives Chris Carter and Kayla Harrison will be honored during the annual Middletown Night at the ballpark. Carter, who is a 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Harrison, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist in judo, will serve as the Honorary Captain of the game.

Miami University Hamilton women's basketball team honored in state capital

COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) — State Representative Wes Retherford  presented a House resolution to the Miami University Hamilton Women’s Basketball Team for its 2013 state title during session of the Ohio House of Representatives this week.

“It was my honor to recognize the Lady Harriers of Miami University Hamilton for their outstanding achievements this basketball season,” Rep. Retherford said.  “Their championship was hard-earned, and these young women will continue to make Miami Hamilton, the City of Hamilton and the State of Ohio proud as they pursue excellence in the future. I look forward to the team bringing home many more championships in the future.”

The 2012-2013 Harriers were the first women’s team to win both the regular season title and the Ohio Regional Campus State Championship in the same year.

 

 

Melzer named Athletic Director at Badin High

Melzer named Athletic Director at Badin High

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Geoff Melzer has been named athletic director at Badin High School effective July 1.

Melzer will succeed Sally Kocher, who is retiring after 14 years as athletic director, 40 years on the faculty at Badin.

“This is my dream job,’’ said Melzer, a 1987 graduate of Badin who has a degree in health and sports studies from Miami University. “I love athletics. More importantly, I love Badin High School. I’m a proud alum, passionate about the school. I don’t think there’s a better place to be.”

Melzer is currently the freshman girls’ basketball coach at Badin, and directs the Hamilton Hustle/Little Rams basketball program. He is the former basketball director of the Hamilton CYO program.

Melzer will leave his job as a district manager for Stagnaro Distributing in Cincinnati, where he has been employed for the past 14 years, the last seven as a manager.
