City of Middletown working with MetroParks to create community garden

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - MetroParks of Butler County and the City of Middletown have been working hard over the winter to develop plans for a community garden at the Middletown Community Recreation Center at 800 LaFayette Avenue in Middletown.

MetroParks had been looking for a location to create and manage a community garden in an urban area and contacted Joel Gross, the Middletown Recreation Center Director.

“The timing couldn’t have been better,” said Mr. Gross. The community garden site next to the Recreation Center had not been used for a number of years. Mr. Gross was looking for an organization to get the garden up and running again.

“Community Gardens give families, children and friends the opportunity to grow their own vegetables as well as help create a stronger feeling of community,” commented Lynette Dean, Supervisor of Programs & Special Events.
