Winner announced in 2013 Ohio hot air balloon challenge | Events
MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - The winner of the 11th Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival was Jim Cusick of Marysville, Ohio who flew the "Bolt" racer balloon.
Jim Cusick is the ninth Ohio Challenge Champion. Two years ended with no champion due to poor flying weather.
Second place finisher Yudai Fujita holds several championships in Japan. Al Nels, two-time National and two-time World champion, placed third.
All three top scoring pilots are continuing family traditions of hot air balloon championships. Cusick “joined” his father’s balloon crew at about age 4. He learned well, as his father, Rick Cusick, was the 2005 Ohio Challenge champion.
Now a third generation, Jim’s 5-month-old son, has joined the flying team. Fujita follows his father, a champion balloonist in Japan, while Al Nels’ son is also a competitive pilot in the U.S.
