MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - MetroParks of Butler County has announced the results of the “Name the Garden Contest” for the community garden in Middletown.

The garden committee consisting of members from MetroParks, Ohio State University Extension office, Berns Garden Center and the City of Middletown enjoyed the task of reviewing names submitted. 

“Middletown Community Garden,” the name submitted by Patrick Bourne was the name agreed upon.  “I wanted to bring attention to the fact that we have a community garden at the center,” commented Kenna Brongersma of Berns Garden Center when asked why this was her top pick.

]The Growing Strong and Growing Together programs run through the entire summer and until the garden is prepared to rest in the fall.

Paws Adoption Center in Middletown needs your help! Purina Cat Chow “50 years. 50 Shelters” program is geared up to contribute up to $225,000 in product and monetary donations to 50 cat shelters nationwide.

Paws Adoption Center is the only Ohio Shelter in the program. The shelter has received $2,000 dollars from Purina Cat Chow: $1000 in cash donation and $1000 in custom care package of products such as food, litter, toys and more.

As of today, the shelter is now eligible to obtain another donation up to $1000. For every vote cast, Purina Cat Chow will donate $1 up to $1000 until June 14th or until 25,000 votes are casts.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Ross Township police department will have a front and center role at the Reds vs. Cubs on Sunday. May 26.

The Ross Township Police Department Honor Guard will present the Colors at the Great American Ball Park at the 1:10pm game.

Chief Kramer said “We Started an Honor Guard a Couple of Years ago and I think it’s an Honor to be selected especially during the Memorial Day Weekend”.

The Color Guard will take the field at 12:57pm for the presentation of the colors.

Partnership helps collect items for local mother's in need

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19)  - For moms living in shelters this Mother’s Day as a result of being the victims of domestic abuse or homelessness, Two Men and a Truck locations across the country, including in Middletown, are working with more than 420 schools to collect essential items – soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. – to donate to women’s shelters.

Two Men and a Truck will visit Middletown KinderCare on Friday, May 10 to pick-up items for donation YWCA of Hamilton. Students will help the movers load the boxes and the truck as they show their love and support for women in need this Mother’s Day.

The moving company expects to collect more than 200,000 items to donate to women in crisis.

Three out of 10 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, while 41% of homeless victims are families with children. Many victims take refuge in shelters to protect themselves and their children.

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton natives The Zapp Band are set to headline the annual Honor and Remember concert.

This free concert is being held at the New RiversEdge Park and Amphitheater in Hamilton on Friday, August 9.

The Zapp Band feature The Troutman Brothers from Hamilton, Ohio. The nucleus of Zapp circled around three of the five Troutman brothers: Lester, Larry and their younger brother Roger. The duo of Lester and Roger started several groups including Little Roger and the Vels. Larry eventually joined his brothers when their name became Roger and the Human Body, which also included youngest brother Terry and Gregory Jackson [Cincinnati Ohio Funk Keyboardist].

The two day event offers great food and music for people to come together to honor the lives and sacrifices made by  the almost 70,000 Ohioans that have given their  lives for our freedom since Ohio became a state in 1803.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The first of a three game series will be a tribute to Middletown natives.The Reds game on Monday, May 6 is Middletown night.

Middletown, Ohio natives Chris Carter and Kayla Harrison will be honored during the annual Middletown Night at the ballpark. Carter, who is a 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Harrison, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist in judo, will serve as the Honorary Captain of the game.
