Over $1M in synthetic marijuana seized in Hamilton

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -Hamilton Police recovered over $1 million in synthetic drugs and more than $200 thousand in U.S. currency after a major drug bust.

Officers served 19 search warrants to businesses and residences in both Butler and Hamilton Counties on Thursday. Officers recovered over 51,600 packets of synthetic drugs valued at over $1 million.

Drug paraphernalia, four handguns and $210 thousand in U.S. currency were also recovered at the scene.

The City of Hamilton has been conducting a long term investigation of trafficking synthetic marijuana in several businesses including Wireless A, Pleasant Avenue Wireless & Smoke Shop, CK Wireless, Bonkerz and the EZ Wireless Store. All of the businesses are located in the City of Hamilton.

Cincinnati State, partners are offering small business seminars in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati State’s Workforce Development Center is working with the City of Middletown, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the State of Ohio’s Small Business Development Centers to offer a series of seminars this month for startup companies and small businesses.

The seminars – which cost $25 each, or $80 for all four in the series – are designed to train both aspiring and current small business owners in four areas:

  • Marketing Using Social Media (Friday, April 5)
  • Small Business Legal Issues (Friday, April 12)
  • Business Accounting (Friday, April 19)
  • Quality Control Management (Friday, April 26)

“The goal of this program is to help foster a business-friendly environment for small businesses in Middletown,” said James Bax, the Workforce Development Center’s business manager for Middletown.

Cincinnati State, Middletown to welcome Cuban artists

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Two celebrated Cuban artists are visiting Cincinnati State college in Middletown this week as part of an international cultural exchange program.

Both artists are spending the first week of April in Butler County, presenting their works at the Pendleton Art Center, attending workshops, working with young artists at Middletown’s Art Central Foundation, and meeting artists and others in Greater Cincinnati.

Abandoned house fire in Hamilton total loss

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- Fire crews were called to an abandoned house fire Tuesday evening in Hamilton.

Authorities say the fire broke out in a two-story home located on South 6th Street just before 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, Hamilton firefighters found heavy flames on the second floor of the building.

According to authorities, firefighters inside the structure were called outside as the roof began to collapse.

In total, crews remained on scene for nearly two hours.

No one was injured in the blaze. The property is considered to be a total loss, valued at $22,400.

The cause is undetermined and will remain under investigation by Hamilton's Deputy Fire Chief.

Events planned for 2013 Hamilton Film Festival

Events planned for 2013 Hamilton Film Festival

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The schedule has been released for the 2013 Hamilton Fim Festival being held on Saturday, April 6. About 50 films were submitted internationally to the festival and 20 of them will be screened by the public at various locations around town.

Tours available on Saturday include: Ghost Tour, Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, 1013 Flood Sites Guided Walking Tour and the Conservatory at Miami University Hamilton.

Local broadcast legend Nick Clooney will be the special guest for the Awards Banquet being held at the Courtyard by Marriott at 7pm.

Tickets start at $5 dollars for a single screening and go up to $50 dollars for access to all screenings, tours and the awards banquet.

Homeowner checks on business, returns to find house on fire

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- A business owner in Hamilton left his home to check on an alarm at his business and returned to his house to find it on fire.

It happened around 4 a.m. on Millvale Avenue.

The homeowner told crews that he was alerted to an alarm at his place of business on the East side of town, and when he returned home, he found his house on fire.

Fire crews kept the blaze from extending past the bedroom. No one was hurt.

Damage is estimated at $35,000. The cause remains under investigation.
