FIRE DEPT: 9-year-old burns down house

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -Six people have been displaced after a fire in Hamilton.

Fire crew responded to reports of the fire around 8:45 Saturday morning in the 200 block of Walnut Street.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported smoke and flames coming from the two-story wood frame residence.

All occupants were able to evacuate before fire crews arrived.

The fire is believed to have started in a second floor bedroom near the rear of the house. The Hamilton Fire Department says that the fire was started by a nine-year-old child that was left unattended with a lighter.

The child will be referred to the Hamilton Fire Department's Juvenile Fire Setter Program.

Damage has been estimated at $15 thousand for the structure and $7.5 thousand for the loss of contents.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced family.

Police: A second young boy involved with starting garage fires

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton Police have discovered that a 11-year-old boy was also involved with starting fires that damaged several garages along Campbell Avenue.

Police had already connected an eight-year-old boy tto the crime that happened on Sunday, April 7.

Police say that the boys started a fire in a garage with a lighter in the 1200 block of Campbell Avenue in Hamilton. The initial blaze caught a second nearby garage on fire. The radiated heat was so intense, that it damaged vinyl siding on five other garages and houses along the street.

Both boys will not ne sent to juvenile court at this time and will instead go to a Juvenile Firestarter Program. The boys will also be required to undergo an evaluation for possibility of further treatment.

Butler Co. Sheriff urges non-support of immigration reform bill

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)-Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones has sent letters to key government leaders asking them to not support the recently proposed bill for immigration reform.

In letters to US Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, Speaker of the House John Boehner, US Representative Steve Chabot, and Ohio Governor John Kasich, the Sheriff cites the example of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing as a serious concern for relaxing criteria in granting foreign-born persons legal permission to enter the United States.

HIs letter states, in part, that "…there are multitudes of people, nations, and religious entities that will take any opportunity to come here and wreak havoc and terror on us…"

New drug drop box introduced in Hamilton

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton Police Department and the Alcohol and Chemical Abuse Council of Southwest Ohio introduced a new drug drop box during a scheduled press conference on Thursday.

The Hamilton Police Department, and the Alcohol and Chemical Abuse Council, with the assistance of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators will place a drug drop box in the lobby of the Hamilton Police Department to safely and securely dispose of medicines that are no longer needed or are expired. This box will be available for the safe disposal of drugs, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Outdated or unused drugs pose a serious risk to children and adults, if not disposed of properly. Events marking National Drug Drop Off Day will be held at the Hamilton Police Department on Saturday, April 27.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - This summer, Cincinnati Recreation Commission is offering the trip of a lifetime for the 17th consecutive year. CRC’s RiverTrek 2013 – July 22 through 26 – is a weeklong, 75-mile trip canoeing and camping along the Little Miami River.

You don’t need to be an expert on the outdoors to enjoy RiverTrek. Canoeing and outdoor skills will be taught throughout the week. In addition to being able to handle a canoe, RiverTrekkers will learn about each other and themselves. Teamwork and leadership skills are stressed as much as paddling abilities.

RiverTrek 2013 is a free program with a nominal $10 registration fee (scholarships and forms are available in the online registration packet to assist with the fee if necessary). A CRC membership is required. The deadline for registering is May 1.

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A group of Ross/Butler Tech students recently competed at the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Regional competition at Butler Tech.

The teams advanced to state competition April 18 & 19 in Columbus.  Students received seven Gold medals and three Silver medals.

2 arrested after drug bust at teen night club

2 arrested after drug bust at teen night club

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19)- Two people were arrested following a drug bust at a teen night club and business in Hamilton.

Authorities
say during an ongoing undercover investigation, agents made drug buys
at Club Pluto, located at 515 S. 2nd Street. On Friday, authorities
conducted a search warrant on Friday at the night club, as well as a residence on Fairview Avenue in Hamilton.

Club
Pluto co-manager, Robert Conrad, 24, was arrested after agents
reportedly found approximately 28 grams of heroin and several hundred
dollars in cash.

At the residence, Anthony Crowder, 23, was
arrested. Authorities reportedly seized over $3,000, a handgun with
several rounds of ammunition, numerous bags of white powder currently
being tested, other items commonly used to package heroin for sale and a
Mercedes SUV.
